Protect yourselves from getting burgled

According to Bedfordshire police crime statistics the number of burglaries recorded between March 2017 – February 2018 total to a number of 142 It’s also true that many people simply choose not to report it so the actual figure could be a lot more. What we can be certain about is that our neighbourhood has been targeted on many occasions and our residents understandably are very alarmed by this.

We need to work together to help bring this growing epidemic down so we can start to feel at ease again.

This is ho we can help,

• Keep windows and doors locked goes without saying – Additionally remember to lock doors from the outside when leaving the home. This maximises security and would make entry for any potential burglar very difficult if not impossible.

• Leave a light on and even a television to give an impression somebody is at home

• Never share information on any platform that you have gone away. Criminals are always on the lookout!

• Check to see who’s at the door before opening- sometime criminals have been known to knock on doors to check if anybody is at home. On occasion someone is at home, they’ll make an excuse for knocking, such as they are looking for a friend and have got the wrong door, or they’ll ask something ridiculous like are you selling the car in your driveway. This is true, so please take caution if you have a similar experience.

How can neighbours, help each other

• If you see anyone looking suspicious please report it to the police – Do not approach them yourself

• If your neighbour is away from their home, please do not share this information with anyone, the man knocking on your neighbours door could be looking for that information exactly.
